April Owens, Executive Director, Habitat Corridor Project & Horticulture Chairperson, CNPS-Milo Baker Chapter

As a landscape designer watching the rebuilding process from the past fires I see many not incorporating defensible space into their landscape. I have created many rebuilds now throughout the county creatively weaving in fire-wise, water saving and California native plants. The product is what we at the RLC call a resilient landscape. I’m excited to share photos, tricks and tips to attendees so that they can start to implement them on their land.” – April Owens

Discover how you can make your home and the landscape beyond it fire resilient with a science-based approach including:

• Recommendations for fire-wise landscape design in the 0-5’, 5-30’, and 30-100’ defensible space zones, with specific suggestions within each zone.

• Explore different kinds of hardscapes and mulches and their benefits and challenges.

• Suggestions for water savings and habitat creation within your landscape.

• Discussion of California native plants and their arrangement for a more fire wise landscape.

• Practical and affordable ways to achieve a beautiful, biodiverse, energy-saving and fire-wise landscape
