Join the Hacienda Improvement Association in welcoming Fire Safe Sonoma and the Resilient Landscapes Coalition for a two-part presentation and workshop! 

Home Hardening Workshop (Register by June 11th, 2025)

When: June 14th, 2025 from 10:00AM – 2:00PM

Where: 100 Marigold Ln, Forestville, CA 95436

Event Description: “Prepare for Wildfire and Harden your home now to protect it from RED!” presented by Roberta Macintyre President of Fire Safe Sonoma. Taking the necessary measures to harden (prepare) your home can help increase its likelihood of survival when wildfire strikes. In this presentation we will go over CAL Fire’s list of Low-Cost Ways to Harden Your Home, such as installing a noncombustible gutter cover on gutters to prevent the accumulation of leaves and debris in the gutter; caulking or plugging gaps greater than 1/8-inch in the siding; and installing non-combustible 1/8-inch metal mesh screen attic and underfloor vents.


What to bring:
 As part of this workshop, we will be touring properties in the Hacienda Community to look for examples of home hardening. Please bring water, sunscreen, and a hat. Lunch will be provided.

Resilient Landscaping Defensible Space Workshop (Register by July 12th, 2025)

When: July 19th, 2025 from 10:00AM – 2:00PM

Event Description: 
Discover how you can make your home and its landscape fire resilient with a science-based approach. This workshop will include time for questions and will cover:

  • Recommendations for fire-wise landscaping in the 0-5′, 5-30′, and 30- 100′ defensible space zones, with specific plant and design suggestions.

  • Realistic ways to reconcile the sometimes conflicting guidelines, to achieve a beautiful, biodiverse, energy-saving and water- and fire-wise landscape.

  • A practical understanding of what it means to be sustainable in an ever- changing California climate.

  • Resources for how to move forward with your landscape and community.

  • Maintenance techniques to prepare your landscape for fire resilience such as pruning techniques, mulching, composting, mowing and irrigation.
